Areas of Practice

Hernia Surgery

Hernias can be uncomfortable and cause anxiety. As they become larger, symptoms can escalate and activities such as exercise and work can be restricted. As they worsen, hernias can become more sore, stuck out and/or involve the bowel and might need urgent surgery. Therefore, early expert surgical assessment of symptomatic hernias is important in trying to prevent future problems. If you have a possible hernia in your groin, around your umbilicus (belly button) or elsewhere on your abdomen (tummy), then John Terrace Surgical can provide rapid access to Mr Terrace, an experienced surgeon with expertise in laparoscopic (keyhole) hernia repair. Self-referral is welcome meaning that you don’t have to first see your GP. Within a few days, a consultation can be arranged at Spire Edinburgh Hospitals and surgery discussed. A date for an operation can be quickly arranged around your life and work commitments.

Gallbladder and Gallstone Surgery

Gallstones can cause significant pain and lead to the gallbladder becoming inflamed and infected. If gallstones cause a blockage, some patients might also become yellow with jaundice or develop inflammation of the pancreas gland. Laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery is recommended to treat gallbladder and gallstone problems and John Terrace Surgical offers prompt investigation, diagnosis and expert laparoscopic surgery with Mr Terrace. Self-referral is welcome and within a few days a consultation can be arranged at Spire Edinburgh Hospitals, with investigations and surgery scheduled for a time that suits you.

Adrenal Surgery

Adrenal gland problems can be difficult to diagnose and require highly specialist care. Growths in the adrenal gland which produce too much hormone can result in many complications including high blood pressure and weight gain and often removing the adrenal gland containing the growth is the only cure. Early surgery can prevent longer term complications and unnecessary tablet medications. In some cases, adrenal gland growths can be cancerous and prompt surgery is then usually recommended. John Terrace Surgical has dedicated expertise in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of adrenal gland disease using laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery and care is led by Mr Terrace, the regional surgical specialist for adrenal gland problems. Self-referral is welcome. Within a few days, a consultation can be arranged at Spire Edinburgh Hospitals and any investigations arranged and surgery planned.
